This program works to strengthen cohorts of bilingual educators who are equipped to more equitably educate all New Mexican children including those who are language learners, low-income students as well as those with differing abilities.

Through a hands-on classroom setting, students will learn about and practice interdisciplinary, place-based, student-centered strategies and inclusive settings for diverse learners.

**Our goal with this campaign is to fully support students who would not otherwise have the financial means to participate in an international experience such as this.

Highlights:

  • Designed in line with the recent Yazzie/Martinez 2018 ruling, the New Mexico Public Education Department’s response to the lawsuit, and our New Mexico Constitution Article XII.
  • Prepares secondary educators in an interdisciplinary manner across Bilingual Education, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Special Education,
  • Deepens understandings of the Peoples, cultures, and histories of Southern Spain through a UNM Independent Study course taught on site and excursions to important cultural sites,
  • Contributes to a larger project of education at UNM as a driver of curiosity, innovation, community-engaged scholarship, and democratic global citizenry
